SPOTLIGHT - MADISON HAMMOND

The Beyond HP “Spotlight” is an opportunity to showcase and help promote a local leader’s project in the community. We are excited to Spotlight an amazing young lady who has been a part of the HP family since the age of 13, Madison Hammond. We want to celebrate her triumphs and amazing successes through her hardwork!

Madison Hammond becomes the first Native American player in NWSL history. After going undrafted and trialing in Spain, Hammond joined OL Reign in Montana for preseason ahead of the club’s Challenge Cup run. While she ended the Fall Series with two consecutive starts, the Wake Forest alum made her debut on September 26th in Utah. While Hammond admits she probably had “one thousand thoughts” entering the field, she did recognize the weight of the moment.

“I did have a moment of ‘wow, I am the first of me to step on this field.’ It was brief, and I smiled to myself,” said Hammond. “I thought of my Mom and sister, who were at the game. It was special for me because, with COVID, it was never guaranteed for them to see my debut. I should have only thought about the game, but I thought about them. It was very special.”

SPOTLIGHT - JOY VEAZEY

The Beyond HP “Spotlight” is an opportunity to showcase and help promote a local leader’s project in the community. We are excited to Spotlight an amazing young lady in the local community, Joy Veazey.

Joy is the founder of HOPE FASTER. HOPE FASTER is an all-volunteer sports and fitness focused pediatric cancer fundraising and awareness platform. Created in 2013 by the sibling of a young cancer patient, HOPE FASTER encourages activity to help young cancer patients stay active and to help all children learn the lessons that sports and competition provide.

HOPE FASTER grew from an idea Joy had to help her little sister Hope when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Joy designed a fitness and fundraising event around a speed & agility workout that is professionally coached but run by children and young adults. This Kids-Helping-Kids event introduces children to a cause and provides a fundraising platform to support their peers facing cancer. They learn to advocate for others leading up to the event then focus on the lessons of hard work and competition, all of which will help them in life and any athletic endeavors.
